About Me
I am a community-engaged health services researcher and psychiatric registered nurse currently Assistant Professor at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) College of Nursing. My research aims to promote the mental health and wellbeing of medically-underserved populations, particularly immigrants and refugees, through community-partnered and policy-relevant research while mentoring future change agents from underrepresented minority backgrounds. I utilize a public health critical race praxis and highlight the structural determinants that perpetuate displacement and its health sequeale, locally and globally.

Migrant Health Justice & Displacement ColLABorative
Our lab is dedicated to advancing research that promotes the mental health and wellbeing of medically underserved populations disproportionately suffering from war, violence, trauma, and other risk factors including housing instability. Based in South Los Angeles, we emphasize the role of migration, displacement, and housing instability as social determinants of health. Specifically, our research explores Adverse Migration Experiences (AMEs) like displacement and cumulative migration-related stress as key drivers of poor health outcomes. We prioritize community partnerships in both research and intervention development, recognizing them as essential to fostering health equity. Ultimately, we seek to develop community-engaged, policy-relevant research to better understand and addresses the impact of forced displacement.
